Now, I do not notice things like this every single time, but it was really hard not to see it here. Nevertheless, they don't seem to talk to each other. Yes, in the same way a haunted place horror film is entertaining. The mocking was not subtle, I am afraid. However, I persisted and was rewarded when the story started to pick up the pace.

Some of those things aren't revealed until much later in the book. The evil doesn't come out all at once. Maybe it would have been better to have points of view from one or two of the characters, three at the most. This made reading the book feel rather tedious.

You see, I don't like preachy books no matter the side a believer or an atheist, both can be rabid and I am choosing to read those parts as a religious satire. Imagine a full hotel and I would save only one. As I said, I don't have patience for any kind of preaching. That God doesn't want to dirty his hands and that demons are doing it for him is a statement scattered all throughout the book. However, I will say that every character is well formed and quite lifelike.

After all, none of them are innocents. Unfortunately, this didn't have the desired effect with this story.

It completely ruined the book. Usually, having different points of view helps me to see the bigger picture. That's why I chose to read those parts as a satire. Yes, because all a woman has is her looks.

Overall, as a haunted hotel story with a couple of truly creepy moments, it was pretty entertaining, but don't expect any character depth. The character in question simply didn't get enough space to annoy me, I think. Scott Nicholson has written an intriguing horror. Somewhere around the middle, Digger gets a warning to get his daughter out of the hotel and leave.

While the book is really entertaining, there were a couple of things that annoyed the hell out of me. Digger and Kendra Wilson may be father and daughter, but they don't seem to be very close. She was way too old to put Kool-Aid highlights in her hair. There was exactly one person I didn't want dead.
